DCPS has plans for Van Ness Elementary School that involve the 1000+ families that have recently moved into the neighborhood and will need a place for their child to attend school. I don't think this option would work to take that building away.

I think the Marines should decide which is more important a new barracks or a soccer field and parking garage. The Marines should fully utilize the land that is in their current possession before taking over community public spaces (or pay market prices for some of the many vacant lots located nearby). Rather than dismantle a community park at Virginia Ave including a garden (fences, mature fruit trees, and other garden structures) it would make more sense to build the new barracks on the current soccer field location and build a new soccer field for the entire community (not controlled access by the Marines).

What are the Marines planning to do with the children who will shortly be going to a renovated and reopened VanNess school? Additionally, I am not in support of any option that would bring a building all the way to the edge of 5th/ L Streets (the planned "shared use facility").
